Isaac S.

Isaac I. Scott is a #DegreesNYC Data Fellow. He is a multidisciplinary visual artist, community organizer, and minister based in East Harlem, New York, whose lived experience with incarceration deeply informs his commitment to social change. He serves as the Director of Community Initiatives at Another Choice Youth and Family Outreach Inc., the outreach ministry of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, and chairs the Human Services Committee of Manhattan Community Board 11.

As a #DegreesNYC Data Fellow at Goddard Riverside, Isaac leads participatory action research (PAR) focused on equitable educational attainment for justice-impacted students. His research practice began in 2015 through collaborations with Columbia University’s Center for Justice and has grown to include national studies, including: labeling and dehumanization, the social dynamics of incarceration, Post traumatic prison disorder, trauma-informed arts engagement, and youth & family development.

Through his company Isaac’s Quarterly LLC and The Confined Arts @Another Choice Youth and Family Outreach Inc, Isaac combines strategic arts engagement, public health frameworks, and qualitative inquiry to reimagine systems of support for justice-impacted individuals, especially youth and families navigating reentry. Across all his work, he advances a vision of transformation through culturally responsive practice, neighborhood empowerment, and leadership development.

Nermen E.

Nermen Elkallini attends City College as a part of the Sophie Davis biomedical program. She has been a part of the Data Fellowship since its inception and is returning for a third year. She joined #DegreesNYC because of how impactful our work is for future students who will be able to have a better and more effective educational experience by learning from the feedback given by students who have gone through the system. In addition, she is intrigued by students' experiences from across NYC and being able to listen and get exposed to a variety of those experiences.
